Sustainability Activities

When you choose GreenTree Painting and Design, you are choosing a painting contractor that is environmentally conscious. By doing so, together, we will greatly lessen the impact that painting your home or office will have on our environment.

GreenTree Painting and Design only uses low or no VOC paints and stains to ensure higher indoor air quality for you, your family and all spaces in your home or office. VOCs are the vapors (the smell) related to regular paint commonly used in painting projects. When the VOCs are released over time, they combine with natural light and carbon dioxide to create smog and ozone. This has a wide range of effects, ranging from, respritory problems, damaging trees and plants and contributes to the growing problem of global warming.

According to the EPA, indoor air quality is one of the top 5 leading health risk issues in the U.S. And one of the leading causes of that problem are the paints, varnishes and solvents we use in our homes that all contain VOCs. Expectant mothers and families with small children are highly recommended to use safe and non-toxic paints.

GreenTree Painting is also a firm believer in recycling all materials used in our projects. Paint cans, paper and plastic for protecting your belongings are all recycleable materials and will be properly discarded. Another way we minimize our footprint is by consciously washing our equipment after your project. By using minimal water and by not pouring excess paint down the drain, we help protect our waterways. Conventional wastewater treatment plants and septic systems are not designed to handle oil-based paints and solvents or large amounts of latex paint. By letting all our excess paint dry instead of pouring it down the drain, we aim to help keep our rivers and lakes and the life that depends on them clean and healthy. When buying paint for your project we do not over buy and will leave any excess paint for future touch-ups or projects. We will also donate excess paint that will not be used to local charities or have it properly disposed of through the hazardous materials recycling center here in Chicago.
